CHURCH MINISTRIES

Dr. A. Marquis Scruggs, Senior Pastor
OUR HISTORY
Promiseland Church Ministries Executive Board was also established on May 5, 1997. Executive board members were Pastor Antoine Scruggs, Sr., Sis. Danita Scruggs, Sis. Tammy Curenton and Bro. James Johnson.
In February of 1998, as the membership began to grow, Promiseland Church Ministries became housed in the gymnasium of Sunset Lane Baptist Church located at 8923 Sunset Lane, Little Rock, AR, 72209.
In June of 1998, a 10-wk summer Vacation Bible School for disadvantaged youth was founded and later became known as Promise Camp. During the first year, 65 youth were enrolled in Promise Camp. Out of the 65 youth, 14 were baptized, and 20 dedicated their lives to Christ.
In August of 1996, an after-school program for at-risk youth known as Promise University was established. The program was held each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with 75 youth enrolled. Subsequential, an additional mentoring program was established which is called Y.I.P. (Youth Intervention and Prevention). In September, a food and clothing Ministry was established. This ministry has serviced the needs and provided assistance to over a thousand families. In addition, toys, clothing, and food are provided to families everay year at Christmas.
In January of 1999, as the body (membership) of Promiseland Church Ministries began to increase and the favor of the Lord was upon the ministry, Promiseland moved from the gymnasium of the Sunset Lane Baptist Church into the Chapel. With an increasing membershhip there came a need for increased laborers-Pastor Chris Bennnett served as Asst. Pastor; Min. Bettye Bennett served as dChrestian Education Director; Ss . Angelia Johnson served as Chuch Administrator; Sis Tammy Curenton, Director of Family Life; Sis. Renata Jones, Director of Finance; Sis. Angela Washington, Youth Director; Sis. Patsy Clark, Director of the Ministry of Compasion; and Mark Fink served as Colligiate Minister.
Promiseland had grown to over 300 members in November of 1999 and was offered the opportunity to purchase all of the property on 8923 Sunset Lane. In 2000 the Hispanic ocngregation voted to unite with Promiseland. Their pastor, Jose Martinez became a second assistant pastor.
In 2001, Prmiseland started a television broadcast ministry called " All Things are Possible" which aired on cable channel 18. The broadcast continued for a brief period of time but ended temporarily due to a focus on other areas of the ministry. Also in 2001, Pastor Scruggs licensed and ordained four ministers: Angelia Gallon, Torrye Gallon, Marlean Acker, and Teresa Barnes. In 2003, Pastor Scruggs licensed two more ministers, Min. Eric Howard and Min. David Bean.
A milestone for the ministry was hit in 2002 when the Promiseland members went out and gathered the homeless and served them for Thanksgiving by ministering to their physical and spiritual needs. this outreach effort has continued every year since. 2002 also brought the acquisition of the parsonage on 4819 Baseline Road.
In 2005, the ministry acquired the property at 4919 Baseline Road. The vision for this building was to become transitional housing for teenagers coming out of foster care. Another building would house the Community Development Corporation offices and trainging rooms.
As growth continued, a second location was planted in Jacksonville, AR at 1205 T.P. White Drive. During this year, Pastor Scruggs; started a formal Minister's Training course. At that time, Benjamin Chandler became licensed and the following ministers were in training; Edgar Rice, Charles Lee, and Marika Chase.
That fall, many challenges were brought by Hurricane 'Katrina". By faith , Pastor Scruggs opened a shelter for the "Katrina" victims without any idea of how it would be funed. Nevertheless, the ministry housed over 70 families for several months and assisted them in every area such as housing, medical, banking, social security benefits, medications etc. As a result of obeying God, resources poured in from community partners as well as some help from FEMA. Many of the families remained with the ministry even after their needs had been met.
As a spiritural shifting began to occur in 2006 and into 2007, God led new co-laborers to the ministry and the call for excellence propelled some restructuring of the leadership. In 2009, Promiseland relocated to 3700 W. 65th Street with a "New look, and New location."
Seeking to be in a centralized location, opportunity presented itself and Promiseland was able to once again relocate to 4520 S. University. This move enabled Promiseland to continue to serve the Southwest community as well as positioning to impact the West Little Rock area.
To date, God has brought MANY holy spirit filled people into the ministry who serve faithfully and work dilidgently to help carry out the vision of the ministry. the lord has placed and burden in Pastor Scruggs' heart to become a multidimensional, multicultural, spirti-filled chuch. Promisleland Church Minstries' vision and purpose is clear and the goals are obtainable through Christ- a church without walls., a church where ministry really matters, meeting the needs of people where they are.

OUR MISSION
• To Worship - This helps you focus on God as the solution for your problems. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Psalm 29:2
• To Minister - Meeting the needs of people; where they are helps you use your talents and gifts in serving others, thus demonstrating God's Love through your acts; by meeting their needs and planting seed. Meeting spiritual, emotional, relational and physical needs, we are able to perfect the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:12
• To Evangelize - Helps you to fulfill your mission of reaching your friends and family for Christ. "Keepers of the Promise" are required by a covenant relationship with God to be ambassadors for Christ. We are to tell the whole world about a coming King. We exist to communicate God's Word. The great commission was given by Jesus in Matthew 28:19 to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
• To Fellowship - “You are not alone in your Christian walk.” Fellowship helps you face life's problems by receiving support and encouragement from fellow Christians. The two ordinances of the Church, which makes complete fellowship are:
• Baptism -…and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
• 1 Peter 3:21
• Communion - For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 1 Corinthians 11:26
